Adult learning

Be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12.2)

Growing as adults at St James’s

Spiritual growth as a Christian is a lifelong activity. And there are many ways to grow in your faith with us at St James’s.

Bible Study

We have a Bible Study that meets regularly in two separate groups:  One on Thursday afternoons, and another on Thursday evenings.

It’s a place where you are free to ask away, to wonder, and to discover the richness of the Bible.  Both groups are looking at the Acts of the Apostles, exploring the beginnings of Christianity, the growth of the church, and especially the work of the Holy Spirit of God.

Come when you can, and come as you are. You’ll be promised a lively time, a warm room, not to mention tea, coffee and biscuits!

  • Thursday afternoons from 1 pm to 2.30 pm
  • Thursday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9 pm

Both held at the Vicarage (144 Hertford Road, EN3 5AY).

See our Calendar for exact dates.

Courses in Christianity

pilgrim logoFor those who are keen to explore the Christian faith (or remind themselves of what they might have learned years ago!), we offer courses in Christianity which meet over a number of weeks.  We have been using Pilgrim, a course from the Church of England, to explore the foundations of the Christian faith.

In 2016 our associate vicar Jeremy recently led a group through Book 2, ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, exploring the foundations of the Christian faith.

In Spring 2017 a Lent study group looked at Book 1, ‘Turning to Christ’, together with St George Freezywater and St Peter & St Paul Enfield Lock, as part of our #GodBlessEN3 collaboration, and the group was team taught by clergy and others from our parishes.

We also prepare Christians every year for Confirmation, with a weekly class for adults, led by the clergy.

What is Confirmation?  Click here for more information from the Church of England.

Find Us

St James’s Parish Church is on the Hertford Road (A1010), about 12 mins from Southbury Overground station (right out of the station and left onto Hertford Rd) and Brimsdown rail station (left out of the station and left at the bottom of Green Street). London buses 121, 279 and 307 all stop across from the church.

Pop in for coffee

The church is open every Saturday between 10am and 12pm, so please feel free to come in for a cuppa and a chat or just to find some space in our busy world. One of our clergy is about for any enquiries or whatever is on your mind. Our tea and coffee are Fairly Traded.
