We’re here to tell you about the greatest challenge facing our church since the great fire in 1967 destroyed a huge part of it.
Thankfully it survived—including a large part of the roof—and the church has continued to be at the heart of our community for another five decades.
Now the ravages of time have taken their toll on our roof and we are suffering from water ingress in several areas. Surveys have concluded we must now urgently replace the roof to prevent irreversible damage to the building.
This is a huge undertaking, and we are writing to seek your help to ensure it can survive for the next fifty years, and for generations to come.
Background
Our church was built in 1831, and the love and care of its many supporters over the years means it continues to serve today, as it approaches its 200th birthday.
It is in use most days for worship, fellowship, quiet reflection, coffee mornings, fun days for local families, school visits and services, plus a whole host of groups and regular activities.
With baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals and much, much more, our beloved church serves our community throughout their lives.
Inspections and surveys have highlighted the urgent need for a new roof, and this is where we need your help. It is anticipated that the total cost for the roof could be in the region of £550,000. We have been fundraising and setting what funds we can aside for some time and currently have around a third of what we need. Additional funds are being raised thanks to initiatives by individual members of the congregation, but we need to do a lot more to secure the total amount required.
